2007 Orwell Prize for political writing
The Orwell Prize for political writing was established in 1993 and is now regarded as the foremost British award for
books and journalism rooted in politics. Peter Beaumont, Foreign Editor at The Observer, won the Prize for Journalism,
while Peter
Hennessy won the Political Book Prize for his study of Britain in the 1950's, Having
It So Good. This book, concerning the rise of Harold Macmillan, was also shortlisted for the 2007, Samuel Johnson Prize. It
picks up the story of social evolution in Britain where his earlier work, Never
Again - Britain 1945-1951, left off.
