2008 Orwell Prize for political writing
The Orwell Prize for political writing was established in 1993 and is now regarded as the foremost British award for
books and journalism concerning politics. Twelve journalists are in the running for the Political Journalism Prize while
6 books made it to the shortlist for the Political Book Prize (from a record 181 submitted).
William Hague's work about the anti-slave trade campaigner William Wilberforce joins A History of Modern Britain by veteran
journalist and political commentator, Andrew Marr. Both were beated by Raja Shehadeh's description of his native
Palestine and its many troubles - Palestinian Walks: Notes on a Vanishing Landscape
Last Year's Political Book Prize (2007) was won by Peter Hennessy with,
"Having It So Good: Britain in the Fifties"
